PIRANDAI THUVIAYAL

pirandi( in tamil) also known as veldt grape or devils backbone  is a creeper, which has amazing medicinal values.  Its a magical plant which can be grown in the kitchen garden .  Just plant  a small piece of stem in a pot and  see how it grows. The only thing is it has an itching  tendency.

Some medicinal qualities of pirandi:
  • its rich in vitamin c  and calcium .
  • used in curing digestive  problems. it acts as an appetiser
  • used to cure piles ,astma , cough , ulcer
 NEEDED:

tender pirandi stem-  1/4 cup chopped
red chilly
urad dal - 1/2 tbsp
mustard - 1/2 tsp
tamarind little
hing
salt
grated coconut little

METHOD:
  • in a kadai  add 2 tsp oil, temper mustard.
  • then add red chilly, hing , urad dal .
  • roast till light brown,  remove from flame , add coconut, salt.
  • in the same kadai add 1 tsp oil and slightly fry the pirandi.
  • remove  and along it to cool .
  • then grind pirandi  along with the roasted urad dal ....
  • add water as req and grind to paste.(not so smooth)

NOTE:
Select  tender  stems of pirandai  or peel of the ribs.
adding tamarind to pirandai is a must as it neutralises the itching tendency.
